I was wondering if the club has ever concidered making a walk through 3D archery range. I'm not sure how much land would be available on site to do this.
I know paw paw has one and they open it to the public on certain nights. It could bring in revenue to the club if it goes well. They are pretty popular during the summer months so hunters can have something to do to keep up on their archery skills.
It's been a few years since Ive been to one, but I know theyre alot of fun and bring in quite a few people.
Has this ever been brought up in a meeting?? ( I know, I should probably get to one myself to bring up these kinds of things.)
It would be cool if we could have one of these for next summer. Maybe get gander mountain or somebody to sponsor it to get a discount on 3D targets.

I think that's a great idea. I would use it, and I lead a men's outdoor group at my church and I know we would use it.

This might work very well just to the north of our present archery range. Next time you are out there take a walk up that big hill. After you get to the top and are well worn out, you will see a beautiful valley. I think several targets could be placed in there and at the same time be out of the line-of-fire of any ranges. In fact, this is where a lot of our old walking archery range used to be in the 1960's. If you look very carefully you can see the remains.
As with anything it will take a group to plan, build, and follow through on it. The current board members have a lot going on just running the club. But with 1,200 members there ought to be a few interested. This is the place to get it started!

I would be up for helping get this going.....I live a mile from the club. If we can get everything lined up through the winter, and work on getting the course set up in the spring we could get this going for next summer.

Maybe we could do something simular to what we did with our new shooting benches last summer. We could ask for sponsors who would be willing to purchase a 3D target. Sponsors could be a business or an individual member. A sign could be placed at each firing point with the name of who sponsored that paticular target. Heck, those shooting benches didn't cost the club a dime and the sponsors name is there for all to see.

That is a good idea. The one I have been to before also has plat forms to shoot from for some of the targets, similar to what is at the range right now. It would be nice to acquire some lumber to build a few of those throughout the course.

OK let's talk Archery. I attended the membership meeting tonight and asked if there was any interest in archery in the group at the meeting. I was pleasantly surprised to find several hands went up.
So we have set a tentative date of the First Thursday in April (the fifth) to start shooting archery at the club. This would be the first open Thursday after the end of the Air gun shoot. I'm hopeful that there are a lot of folks interested.
If we get enough participation we may be able to work toward having our own 3D walk thru course. But for now I'm mainly just trying to get people out to shoot.
I have in the past shot tournament archery and my present interest is Traditional Archery. For those that don't know what this entails, for the most part it is Long Bows and Re-curve bows. Traditional Archery can be quite involved but I'm just looking at simple stick bows and arrows. No sights needed, wood or aluminum arrows are fine.
So if you have an interest in Archery, Traditional or otherwise please try to keep the first Thursday in April in mind (probably start at 5 PM). I'll be out there and willing to help or answer questions to the best of my ability. Would like to help others get started. So if you've never shot but want to know more about it come on out.
I'll try to get some input into the club news letter as well.
See You in April .>>>--------->

Sounds good to me. I haven't ever shot anything besides compounds. I will plan on being there and if we are able to get a 3D walk thru range I will be up for helping set it up and help get some sponsors if needed. I should go to one of these meetings.....

I'm a compound shooter as well, and I like the idea of a 3-D course, I should be able to help getting it set up....cutting lanes , trails etc....sounds like fun and if it gets large enough maybe the Club could hold some shoots like Paw Paw or one of the other clubs.........sounds like interest is starting to develop.......I should also attend the monthly meetings.

I'll be there on April 5. I live about 2 miles from the club, and I would be willing to help get the 3D thing off the ground also.

Well, spring is finally here. I'm still planning to be out at the Club on the Thursday the 5th of April. The target butts are still in place and in shootable condition.
I'm planning to be at the club by about 6:30. Hopefully some other interested folks will show up and we'll see how it goes from there.

Hey guys I hate to do this but I'm going to cancel for tomorrow evening. I'm going to be very busy at work and I don't think the weather is going to be very good anyway.
So how about we try for next Thursday, April 12th. Some time around 6 PM. If anyone would like to contact me about shooting archery my cell phone number is (269) 349-9355 and my email address is bvanmail@yahoo.com
I'll stop out to the club and put up a notice.
Thanks,
Bert

I can't make it either tomorrow. It was a couple of months ago that I replied to this thread and I didn't know what other obligations I would have on April 5. I will watch this thread though and plug in where I can. Chris

I havent checked here in a while.....did anything come of this. If we are going to start a monthly, bi weekly, or weekly shoot that would be kind of cool. weekly may be a little too frequent as many people are busy during the summer.
