New Range Improvements Coming

Those of you visiting the ranges in the next month will see some improvements in progress.

1. A new Pistol Range is being added between the current short pistol range and the rifle range. This range will be just like the current short range EXCEPT it will be 25 yards.

2. The red barn that we keep supplies in will be moved to the South side of the road as will the trash dumpster. We are going to contract for a larger dumpster in the future. Drainage on the road/parking area will also be improved.

3. The Rifle Range will also see improvements. A new 24' x 24' ready shelter with a concrete floor will be constructed. The old one has already been torn down. Also more concrete with better drainage will be added behind the Rifle Range Firing line. Higher berms with more room on the West end will also be added.

4. New landscaping in front of the safety wall (east-side) will be added.

5. More roadwork is being planned.

6. Lower range work is planned to make the action pistol area better.

7. A Clubhouse parking lot retaining wall will be constructed.

Most of this work is planned for the April 11th workday. But some of the work will be done beforehand when we get the chance. Please be patient, maybe stop and offer a hand. or say thanks if fellow members are working.

Let me know how I can help on any Sunday or Monday getting started on this stuff. They allow me to work two hours overtime every Saturday and that's the only overtime I get. Thanks Kevin for the offer of help. Right now Andy Woolf has a Front Loader and Bulldozer on the property and he is hoping to get as much grading done as possible before the April 11 workday so that members can put up the range covers that day. Then the following week we should be able to pore the concrete and hopefully everything will be completed by May 1st.

Okay, here's the latest! We have the two foot retaining wall poured on the rifle range. This came out real nice! This weekend we hope to set the poles for the new ready area roof. Weather permitting we plan to pour the concrete floor Monday after 3pm. This will require the rifle range to be closed the rest of Monday and all day Tuesday.

The new pistol range is coming along with Andy moving dirt when he can. We are trying to get as much work done before the April 11th work day so we can put up both roofs that day.

Stop by this weekend and lend a hand if you can or on Monday afternoon when we pour.

We had a great turnout at the workday Saturday with a rough count of 68 present for lunch. The club grounds got a much needed cleanup. The rifle range cover is ready for the metal roof. We plan to finish pouring concrete on Monday April 13th at noon. This will require closing the rifle range for the afternoon while the crew is at work. The new pistol range is all carved out and ready for the cover, hopefully it will be ready for use by May 1st. Thanks to everyone for you help!

UPDATE: Due to rain in the forecast for Monday 4/13 we postponed the pouring of the concrete at the rifle range to Thursday afternoon 4/16 at 3pm. Please feel free to come out and lend a hand.

We have a few guys lined up to plant grass seed on the new berms tomorrow Wednesday 4/15 at 9am. We sure could use more help!

Another Update: Today (4/18) the roof was finished up on the rifle range ready shelter. Earlier in the week the concrete poured and the new berms all seeded. The rifle range is basically finished except for stone on the west end which will be a drainage area.

Now work will move to the new pistol range. Poles for the roof need to be set and the concrete floor poured, then we can add the roof over the firing line. A target date for the range opening is May 1st, but that will depend on volunteers and the weather.
