Just wanted a little feedback on how long you should wait to start teaching you kids how to shot. I have two kids a five year old boy and 3 ear old girl and didn't really know what a good age was to bring them into the world of of shooting. I was like 6 when my dad started taking me but I didn't know if there was rules about this for the range. I guess I should get out my hand book but I thought maybe someone would have some good import I would really like to get my kids into competitive shoot someday.

Every kid is different, but I would say as soon as they are old enough to understand right from wrong I'd let them touch and hold a (of course UNLOADED) firearm. Take them to the range with you so they can see and hear a gun shoot. This will take some of the mystery out of it. Make sure they understand never to touch one of your guns when you aren't there or without your permission. Also if they are at a friends house and find a gun, never touch it and run and tell an adult.
As far as shooting, if they show an interest probably around six to eight years old you can have them shoot a .22 rifle off the bench with you right there guiding them. Make sure you load one round at a time for safety. There is no club rule as far as age goes, but if you bring more than one kid it would be a good idea to have another adult with you to watch the other ones and keep them under control at all times. Make sure everyone has eye and hearing protection.
The club has a 4-H junior shooting program where they start the kids out with air rifles. I'm not sure what the lower age limit is, but this would be an ideal place to get them involved with competitive shooting.
Just my thoughts...others may want to chime in.

Thanks for the imput I was think pretty much the same things but didn't know if I was off base with it. A couple of people from work when I was telling them I was thinking about working with my son and shooting over then next few years freaked out on me about it so I wasn't sure if it was to soon or not..
