I am very proud to announce that the two M1 rifles the Kalamazoo Rod & Gun Club are providing to the "M1 for Vets" program have been ordered.
The rifles will be a select grade picked from the stock at Anniston Army Depot in Alabama. They will be sent to program volunteer JJ O'Shea in NC and he will arrrange for new stocks, a new barrel if necassary, and re-parkeriszing. All this work and parts are being donated by gunsmiths and volunteers around the country.
We plan on having two CMP M1 for Vets matches next year to raise funds to pay for these two rifles and possibly a third rifle for next year. We have not picked the recipients for the rifles yet, nor have a date for the presentations. We will keep you informed in newsletters and here at the website.
Here is some information on the program:
The “M1 for Vets” Project is not affiliated with CMP, NRA or any large firearms organization. It is a small, grassroots group of our fellow shooters and collectors that want to show our appreciation and respect for our young men and women that are serving our Nation. Almost all our recipients have been combat wounded, and want to continue to use the marksmanship skills they have acquired. We do not accept self-nominations, but rely on nominations from fellow brothers-in-arms, volunteers working at Military hospitals, and prior recipients. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Very Respectfully, JJ O’Shea jjoshea@msn.com
