What is you opinion for a pistol for the wife? She likes a 380 but she is not liking the small grips on most of them. She does not want anything much bigger then that and she asked about a .22 Now I know its going to lack any knock down or power a larger cal might have. not that a .380 has much more. but for confidence and such, do you think a 22 would be good enough?

9mm is a good all around choice in my opinion. Lots of size options and the ammo is about the cheapest and most available right now. That is what my sister and many other of my friends carry. I personally like my Ruger LCP(380), but like you said it is a small gun but fits in your pocket for conceal carry. I think the best place to go to look at guns to feel and look at and handle, is the Gander Mountain in Grand Rapids on the west side by Cabelas.

Take a look at the .22 mag. revolvers. She might like the light weight and they pack more punch and penetration than a .22 long rifle.

Let me emphasize that you need to let her choose her firearm, if she doesn't like it she won't practice with it and she won't carry it. You can try to steer her in the right direction, and a compact 9mm like a Kahr PM9 or a Smith & Wesson Shield 9mm would be great choices, but not if she doesn't like them! I have a S&W Airweight 351c hammerless .22mag with a Crimson trace grip on it. Very light, pleasant to shoot, and dependable. While not a 9mm, it holds 7 rounds and the .22 mag has some impressive ammo available if you can find it....the Winchester PDX Defender ammo in .22 mag is supposed to have more energy than a .380. I've had several ladies shoot a full box of ammo through it with no problem keeping it all on target, and grinning the whole time. The biggest drawback is that they are fairly expensive and hard to find. If she wants to try one before making up her mind, get in touch with me. They can be found on Gun Broker.
