At our December 2007 business meeting held on the 10th we had the great honor to present our first M1 for Vets rifle. The rifle was presented by club president Tom Fenwick to Mike Bevins a fellow KRGC member. Mike lost the sight in his right eye in Feb. of 2004 while serving in Iraq with the 415th Civil Affairs Battalion based out of Kalamazoo. Mike remarked "I have never handled one of these rifles in such good condition. I am just in awe of receiving this." Well Mike we were more in awe to be able to present the rifle to you! Plans are in the works to present our 2nd rifle in February 2008 to a wounded Marine who is recovering at Camp Lejeune, SC. I came out of that meeting last night feeling very proud of our club. Not only did we accomplish our goal of helping with the nationwide M1 for Vets program. The membership and guests present passed a hat and raised and additional $535.00 for our family from the 415th that the club is sponsoring. It was truly a great night!

As a former Marine, veteran, and CMP Director, it warms my heart to see this program doing so well. Another plus for me is that this rifle not only went to a deserving veteran, but someone I knew in a former life. Great job KR&GC. As for Mike, I am sure you will enjoy this fine instrument and I hope to see you at some of SMGC and KR&GC future CMP events. Congratulations to a great person and an awesome Engineer, even if you were in the Army. Take care. Thank you again, KR&GC. David Graham, SMGC
