I just want to be clear on the rules for the metel clinkers. On the 25 to 50 yard range i have been setting it up in front of the dirt berm to the left of the 1st set of backers for my kids to shoot at. Is this ok?

Not having the handbook in front of me, I'll give you my two-cents worth. I'd say yes, as long as the berm is behind the swinger and the swinger fairly close to the berm. What you don't want is a case where someone misses the swinger, the bullet strikes the ground and bounces up and over the berm. The swinger needs to be close enough to the berm to prevent that from happening.
If you've ever been to a smallbore silhouette match, you'll see the animals are set up directly in front of the small sand berms on the 200 yard range...for exactly the same reason.
That's my take on it...lets see what Leadsquirter has to say on the matter.

Per the membership handbook: "Shoot only at authorized targets. Ground level targets are not authorized without permission of the board." Farther on in the handbook it says: "No shooting at steel targets closer than 25 yards." I agree with John's take above. However, I'm not sure about shooting centerfire rifles at that distance. I'll let Leadsquirter sort the details out.

As long as your not shooting at it closer than 25 yards, have it in front of the berm and are using lead bullets...it is allowed. You can shoot highpower rifles at the 200 meter gong on the rifle range. It will tear it up eventually and the club does not furnish new gongs. This project has been handled by volunteers and as long as they are willing to bring out new gongs and hang them it will be there to shoot at. My recommendation is to practice shooting offhand at it and the gong will last a lot longer then if you just blast away at it off the bench.
