~S~
I was at the club yesterday with my brother in law and shot my 1st AR-15. What a blast. went thru alot of rounds. I plan on buying one sometime in the future. Cant afford it for now but im going to put away every penny i find to get one lol. Ammo seems to be rather cheap for the amout of fun it provides.

You sound like you are hooked Johnbear. Think about giving highpower rifle a try, programs are in a box on the gate bulletin board and posted on the club website. You can borrow a club AR to use in any of the club matches or the ones at SMGC. Between the two clubs we have 16 NRA and CMP highpower matches scheduled for 2007.

That sounds like it would be fun but i am new at shooting. I have only been hunting for about 8 years. thats all been shotgun for most of it. some muzzelloading in the last 3. i am not skilled enought to take part in any matches but will give it a try in the future, when im a little more accurate lol.

You have it precisely backwards, Johnbear......you don't get skilled so you can participate in matches; you participate in matches so you can become skilled.

Highpower programs are available on the gate bulletin board. One is also posted on the club's web site under the groups link.

hey johnbear, dont let being a newbie scare you away from competing in the highpower matches. Those of us that do shoot on a regular basis in the matches were all new at one time. We always ask if there are any new shooters the day of the match. If so, one of us old timers will walk you thru the whole process and keep an eye on ya during the match. Not only for safety reasons but to make sure you follow all the match procedures. After the first match, your a seasoned vet all ready!!! Come on out and give it a try, its fun!! PS. although the club has guns to use , your probably going to be reasponsible for your own ammo ...hope to see ya on the firing line this spring!

55 rounds are needed for our highpower matches. The match itself is a 50 round match and you are allowed 5 sighting in shots . Come on out and check out a match !

Thanks alkazoo,
Is the match iron sights only? I just picked up my first AR and was thinking it may be fun to give it a try. I just need to get a few trips out to the range to get dialed in.

offroad47, Iron sights is the norm, however, the NRA has added a new classification that does allow scoped rifles. You will only be in competition with other people who are shooting scoped rifles and shots fired will not be sent to the NRA for record keeping purposes if you are scoped. This will allow people with less than best eyesight to have fun too and not disadvantage those who still shoot with irons. Good Luck.
