Good evening, my name in Mike George and I'm going to be the primary leader of the Kalamazoo 4-H Shooting Sports archery and BB gun programs this year, starting on Wednesday, March 7th. On Monday, February 27th, we're going to have an archery equipment checkout meeting at the club at 6 p.m, an overview of the program afterwards, followed by a BB Gun overview about 8 p.m.
I think it's important the kids have an opportunity to try out the activity. Unfortunately, it's not an inexpensive endeavor. I've purchased equipment that includes some bows along with a few arm guards, some release aids, a few tabs and a few hip quivers the kids can use. I prefer the families to provide their own arrows for their kids, if at all possible.
In terms of the BB gun discipline, I have 5 Daisy Avanti 499B guns for the kids to use as well as safety glasses and the target backstops. If anyone has a drill press and would be willing to do a small project for me, please contact me. I would like have 5 BB holders that consist of a small board (or metal plate) with 3 rows of 4 drill bit impressions, just deep enough to hold 12 BBs, but still easy enough for the kids to remove the BBs.
I currently have 30+ kids enrolled but I don't expect that many to finish the practice season but you never know. With that said, if you have or know of any kids who are interested in either discipline, I am more than happy to have them join! They have to be a 4-H member first and they have to be at least 9 on January 1st of this year. They can participate through the age of 19. The key date is what age they were on January 1st. The KRGC board has graciously offered the use of the club house for indoor shooting for the next couple of months. The weekly fee will be $2 to cover utility expenses. The current plan is to meet every Wednesday night with archery shooting at 6 and BB gun starting around 7:30 with the program being reevaluated as when/where we will we progress later into the spring. It may change depending upon the numbers in each discipline. I may flip that around if I have quite a few more archers so they're not pressed as much for time.
If you have ANY questions and/or would be interesting in being an assistant for the archery program, please send me some information about yourself. Please include how long you've been affiliated with the sport, whether you shoot compound or long bows and recurves; what types of experience you've had working with kids; how much experience you have with bow setup/tuning/modification, etc. You're more than welcome to come to Monday's meeting.

Thanks,
Mike
